Tiffany Meek's trial resumes with court inspection of apartment complex linked to son's murder

The trial of Tiffany Meek, charged with the murder of her son Jayden-Lee Meek, resumes in Johannesburg today.

The trial against Tiffany Meek, charged with the murder of her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee Meek, will resume in the Johannesburg High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old has pleaded not guilty to murder, child abuse, defeating the ends of justice, and crimen injuria charges.

The court is expected to head to the Swazi Place apartment complex in Fleurhof for an in-loco inspection today.

Jayden-Lee’s school transport driver, Mzwakhe Khumalo, previously testified he picked the boy up from Royal College on the day he disappeared and dropped him off at the apartment complex at about 4.30pm. He explained how the security guard manually opened the gate.

Khumalo testified Jayden-Lee was wearing his red tracksuit and had his bag on his back when he was dropped off.

He later learned that Jayden-Lee was missing. The court also heard that the public accusations made against Khumalo of complicity in the boy's death had resulted in a significant loss of income for the school transport driver.

While Meek has been adamant that her son was wearing his school uniform the day he died, Jayden-Lee’s teacher Rethabile Maswangane testified he was wearing a red tracksuit.

The police sergeant told the court that Meek showed no panic or concern during the search for Jayden-Lee, who was reported missing on May 13, 2025, after he apparently failed to return home from school.

His lifeless, half-naked body was found on May 14, 2025, near the staircase in the Swazi Place complex, just metres from the front door of his home.

Meek was arrested on July 11, 2025, and has been in custody since, following a failed bail application.
