Action could be taken against Airlink over stadium flyover: SACAA

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) could take enforcement action against Airlink if it is found to have breached aviation regulations following its Cape Town Stadium flyover .

The Authority has given the airline until Thursday to respond to its report on the flypast performed by two Airlink aircraft, ahead of the Springboks and All Blacks rugby match on the 29th of August.

Airlink has maintained that the flights were performed within the Authority’s approved safety limits.

Commissioner for the Aviation Authority Poppy Khoza says the report has been sent to Airlink and they will decide on possible action after reviewing the airline’s response.

“As we have done up to now as a Regulator we will not compromise on the safety of passengers, crews, or public to protect the interests of any operator.

We will assess Airlink’s response and take the appropriate action in accordance with our mandate and the applicable regulatory processes.”
