Today's weather: Thunderstorms sweep across SA as rain hits several provinces

The South African Weather Service forecasts isolated thunderstorms across several provinces on Tuesday.

South Africans can expect a mix of warm conditions, morning fog and afternoon thunderstorms on Tuesday, with rain possible across large parts of the country.

The South African Weather Service said no impact-based severe weather warnings, fire danger warnings or advisories have been issued for Tuesday, 22 September.

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers developing during the afternoon. The UVB sunburn index will be high.

Similar conditions are forecast for the North West, where isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected.

The Free State will start the day with patches of fog in the east and along the Lesotho border before becoming partly cloudy and cool to warm. Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are also forecast.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy in places during the morning, with fog expected over parts of the Highveld. Conditions will become partly cloudy and cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers. The Lowveld will be warmer.

In Limpopo, morning cloud, drizzle and fog are possible along the escarpment. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast over the central and south-eastern parts of the province later in the day.

The Northern Cape will experience morning fog in the south before partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions set in. Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are forecast for most areas, excluding the north-west.

The Western Cape will be cloudy with morning fog along the south coast before conditions become partly cloudy and warm to hot.

Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected across parts of the province, excluding the extreme south-west. The UVB sunburn index will be very high.

Both halves of the Eastern Cape have a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

The western half will be partly cloudy and warm after morning fog south of the escarpment, while scattered thunderstorms are expected in western areas from the afternoon.

The eastern half will also experience morning fog south of the escarpment, followed by partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions and isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
