Dludluma road upgrade brings safer, easier travel to residents

The Nkomazi community in Mpumalanga now has access to an upgraded link between the D797 and Dludluma ring road.

A stretch of road in Dludluma that was once covered in gravel has now been transformed into a surfaced route, making everyday travel safer and more reliable for people living in the Nkomazi Local Municipality in Mpumalanga.

The D797 Road, which connects to the Dludluma Ring Road (D2950), was officially handed over by the Mpumalanga Public Works, Roads and Transport Department this week following the completion of the upgrade.

Residents can now travel along a surfaced road when making their way to schools, healthcare facilities, businesses and other essential services. The improved route is also expected to make it easier for people and businesses to transport goods and access surrounding communities.

The community of Dludluma attends a ceremony to hand over a newly completed road project.

The project has brought economic opportunities to the area too. According to the department, local people were employed during construction, while small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) from Nkomazi were given an opportunity to participate in the project.

The department said the road was completed within the stipulated project timelines by a local contractor.

Mpumalanga Public Works, Roads and Transport MEC Thulasizwe Thomo said the project showed that local companies have the capacity to deliver public infrastructure while contributing to the local economy.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of the newly upgraded link between D797 and Dludluma ring road in Mpumalanga.

The newly surfaced route is one of several infrastructure projects underway in Nkomazi.

The department also highlighted the construction of the Phiva-to-Mdladla road and the D2943 Driekoppies Bridge, which are aimed at improving connections between communities and supporting movement across the municipality.
