A Durban security guard who lost his life on Sunday was described as a dedicated and passionate person.
Siyabonga Mkhize, who was employed by Patron Shield Security , was shot dead along Rick Turner Road near Vusi Mzimela Road.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the guard was shot multiple times. Neither Patron Shield nor Jamieson outlined what led to the shooting . At the time of writing, Umbilo police had not released a statement on the incident.
Jamieson said medics arrived at the scene to find the critically injured guard, who was believed to be in his twenties.
“The officer went into a state of cardiac arrest, and despite a lengthy resuscitation effort, the officer's injuries were too serious, and he died on the scene,” Jamieson said.
In a statement, Patron Shield Security said Mkhize lost his life in the line of duty while serving and protecting the community.
“Siyabonga served with courage, dedication, and always a smile. His willingness to stand in harm’s way in the service of our community is a testament to the man he was: always professional and passionate. He was a man among men,” the company stated.
The security company added that those who had been privileged enough to interact with Mkhize would have found him to be a gentleman and a quiet pillar of strength within the community.
“He carried out his duties with immense dedication, courage, and distinction. Day in and day out, Siyabonga embodied the highest ideals of public service, putting the safety and security of our community above all else,” the security company stated.
Patron Shield Security sent its condolences to his family, friends and all those who knew him.
“They honour his service, remember his sacrifice, and remain grateful for the life he gave in the protection of others.
“We stand with you in your grief, and we pledge that the memory and service of our fallen hero, Siyabonga, will never be forgotten,” the company stated.
