ANCYL calls for DA ministers to be removed from Cabinet

The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) is calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to immediately remove Democratic Alliance (DA) ministers from Cabinet and engage other parties to replace them in the Government of National Unity.

League President, Collen Malatji, made the call during a media briefing at Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Thursday.

It follows tensions between the ANC and the DA after the latter opposed the ANC’s Constitutional Court bid to reinstate 181 candidates excluded from the November 4 Local Government Election ballots.

Today, the Constitutional Court directed the IEC to include the candidates on the ballot papers.

Malatji says the ANC has other political options, including bringing the Economic Freedom Fighters into the GNU.

“We are calling upon the GNU and the President to immediately remove all ministers of the DA and we are calling upon the President to reopen discussions with other political parties.

The EFF must start warming up and behave, if they can warm up and behave they can come join the Government of National Unity,” says Malatji.

Earlier, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula questioned the DA’s decision to oppose the ANC’s court bid, arguing that parties in the GNU are bound by a commitment to uphold the country’s constitutional framework.

He says the review is not intended as blackmail, but reflects serious questions about the future of the ANC-DA relationship in government.

“There are matters, comrades, that this movement will now have to sit down and discuss.

And one of those matters is our partners in the Government of National Unity and that is the DA.

We must review the DA in the Government of National Unity,” said Mbalula.
