Man arrested for perjury after falsely reporting vehicle hijacking
A Kimberley man has been arrested for perjury after falsely reporting the hijacking of his vehicle.
The 44-year-old man opened a case of car hijacking at a Kimberley Police Station, alleging that his vehicle was taken by four armed men.
A case was registered, and during investigations police found that his vehicle was repossessed by the sheriff of the court due to failure to make monthly payments to the bank.
Provincial Police Spokesperson, Molefi Shemane, says he’s expected to appear before court soon.
“During the preliminary investigations, detective warrant officer Rheeder established that the vehicle had reportedly been repossessed by the sheriff of the court after a suspect failed to meet his monthly financial obligations to the bank.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had allegedly failed to cooperate with the sheriff’s office and subsequently reported the false hijacking to the police.
