Mhlanga describes Mashaba’s death as a “profound loss”

Gauteng Provincial Government Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says the death of Gauteng Traffic Police Chief Inspector Samuel Mashaba is a profound loss to his family and loved ones.

Mashaba’s death was confirmed by the provincial government in a statement on Tuesday.

He previously testified before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where he was questioned about his involvement in the July 2021 Aeroton drug bust in Johannesburg, where cocaine, with an estimated street value of approximately R 300 million, was seized.

Following his appearance before the commission, Mashaba was placed on precautionary suspension pending a formal disciplinary process.

Mhlanga has extended condolences to Mashaba’s family and loved ones.

He says, “As a government, we extend our condolences to all those affected by his passing.

We stand in solidarity with the family, and we pray for the family to have strength and comfort at this time as they come to terms with the loss of their loved one.” Related video|Madlanga Commission | Chief Provincial Inspector, Samuel Mashaba concludes testimony
