Gauteng Traffic Police Chief Inspector Samuel Mashaba passes away

SABC News ·

Gauteng Traffic Police Chief Inspector Samuel Mashaba has passed away.

His death was confirmed by the Gauteng Provincial Government in a statement.

Mashaba testified before the Madlanga Commission, where he was questioned about his involvement in the July 2021 Aeroton drug bust in the south of Johannesburg, where cocaine, with an estimated street value of approximately R300 million, was seized.

Following his appearance at the commission, Mashaba was placed on precautionary suspension pending a formal disciplinary process.

Gauteng Provincial Government spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says Mashaba’s death is a profound loss for his family and loved ones.

“And as a government, we extend our condolences to all those affected by his passing.

We stand in solidarity with the family, and we pray for the family to have strength and comfort at this time as they come to terms with the loss of their loved ones,” says Mhlanga.
