Runfluencer Mr Meyer hits back at Two Oceans and Cape Town Marathon claims

Yuzriq 'Mr Meyer' Meyer has denied cheating after Two Oceans confirmed he was not entered in either of its 2026 races.

Social media was abuzz with plenty of running commentary from Cape Town’s running community after allegations surfaced that influencer Yuzriq Meyer had cheated in two of the city’s biggest races.

The allegations centre on the Two Oceans Marathon and Cape Town Marathon, where questions have been raised over Meyer’s participation after he posted pictures and videos of himself with race medals.

Meyer has denied cheating, while Two Oceans has confirmed to IOL Media that he was not entered in either its Ultra or Half Marathon this year.

Meyer posted pictures wearing the official Two Oceans Ultra Marathon race shirt and posing with a silver medal, and was also pictured in a Half Marathon shirt with a bronze medal.

He also posted a 56.3km activity on Strava under the heading “Two Oceans Ultra Marathon Walk x BYD stage host”.

Two Oceans event director Wade Bromfield said official entry records showed Meyer was not entered in either race.

“According to the official entry records for the 2026 Totalsports TWO OCEANS MARATHON powered by BYD, Yuzriq Meyer was not entered in either the Ultra Marathon or Half Marathon,” Bromfield said.

He said Meyer had no official involvement with Two Oceans. The event could not comment on his relationship with BYD and said it had no information on how he obtained the event shirt or medal pictured.

Meyer told IOL Media he never cheated. He admitted he did not compete as an official entrant and only ran as an assist runner to encourage competitors.

He said he had been working with PR agency One-eyed Jack on behalf of race sponsor BYD and was allowed to join runners after completing his shift at the activation kiosk.

“After my work shift, they said it’s fine if I want to go run further with the runners,” Meyer said.

“As for the medal, I did not say I completed the race as an official running entree.”

One-eyed Jack confirmed it had contracted Meyer as an influencer and cheerleader for BYD’s activation at Two Oceans, but disputed that it had authorised him to participate in the race.
