Ex-Home and Away’s Lynne McGranger opens up on joy of new twin granddaughters

For 33 years she graced our screens as Irene Roberts – the fierce and feisty matriarch of Summer Bay.

But get former Home and Away star Lynne McGranger talking about her new twin granddaughters and she’s just like any grandparent bursting with pride.

“We’re just totally in love with them, as I expected to be,” the 73-year-old told NewsWire.

“I thought if we were ever lucky enough to become grandparents then I’m sure we will be absolutely in love and I’m not disappointed.”

Stevie Grace and Daisy Joy are non-identical twins born in May, two minutes apart to McGranger and partner Paul McWaters’ daughter Clancy and husband Luke.

“They’re just the love of our lives and wow it really takes you back,” McGranger said.

“How our daughter and son-in-law cope with the two of them all the time – because you try and get them into a similar feeding habit so you can sleep, but it doesn’t always work out that way – is just amazing.”

McGranger’s other great love is live theatre, and in a case of life imitating art, both worlds are about to collide.

McGranger is about to reprise her role as Liz in Christmas in The Grandparents Club, written by multi-award-winning writer Richard Tulloch of Bananas in Pyjamas and Hating Alison Ashley fame.

“Irene was just a great treat, a great character to play,” McGranger said of the character that won her the Gold Logie for most popular TV personality in 2025.

“She was able to touch a lot of hearts and she was flawed and human, and all of those things. She was a joy to play.”

But McGranger said she was excited to be in a position to return to the stage, which she described as her “happy place”.

“To be asked to do Grandparents Club a couple of years ago and then for it to come back a second time last year, and then a third time this year is just wonderful,” she said.

“I can’t explain it except to say it’s the immediacy of theatre, it’s the here and the now.
