Dee Why Police Station evacuated after live hand grenade dropped on reception desk
A Sydney police station has been evacuated and the bomb squad called in after a live hand grenade was left behind.
About 6pm on Thursday night, the Dee Why station on Sydney’s northern beaches was evacuated when “a member of the public dropped off a live military grade hand grenade” at the front desk.
Upon realising the grenade was live, officers quickly evacuated the station and called in the bomb disposal unit, who deemed the item safe and seized it for further examination.
“Initial investigations have revealed the grenade was located during a deceased estate property clean-up and was subsequently taken to the police station,” he said.
