‘F**king loser’: Fund manager Ben Cleary goes on a tirade against activist investor Jeremy Raper
A bizarre sideshow has popped up in the battle for WA exploration company Canyon Resources after a prominent mining fund manager apparently launched an extraordinary tirade at an activist shareholder.
Tribeca Investment Partners director Ben Cleary sent an email on Wednesday morning to Jeremy Raper after the activist investor declined to speak to Tribeca analyst Jack Gallagher about his views on ASX-listed Canyon.
Mr Raper told Mr Gallagher via email he could not discuss Canyon in “any meaningful fashion” given an ongoing Takeovers Panel assessment, which he instigated, into an offer that the company’s majority shareholder had launched.
Mr Cleary, who is based in Brisbane, was not happy about the rejection.
“That’s awesome you f**king loser . . . I wouldn’t piss on you if you were burning . . . Bye buy (sic) forever . . . Regards, Ben.”
Mr Cleary and Mr Raper have reportedly never met in person. Mr Raper posted the supposed interaction on social media.
