'Things change': Crows coach cagey on finals ultimatum

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks says he's been given no guarantee that he'll keep his job if the Crows lose their elimination final.

Nicks understands the "narrative" that he'll be sacked if the Crows lose Saturday night's final against the Western Bulldogs.

"I don't want to comment around whether it's made up or whether it's not - I don't know the facts on any of it.

"What I do know is, I've got incredible support from our football club, absolute backing at the moment - and there's always that part 'at the moment'. Things change really quickly."

Nicks, in his seventh season as Crows coach and contracted until the end of next year, spoke with club president John Olsen, chief executive Tim Silvers and several board members after the reports surfaced.

Asked if he was given assurances about continuing next year, Nicks replied: "I had a lot of positive conversations about what we're seeing.

"It's a tough one to give assurances and 100 per cent guarantees, and you don't know what happens over a week.

"And that seems to be the industry we're in. There's a lot of pressure comes with the jobs we have.

"I've always said it right along the journey, that it's the pressure I love, it's why I'm in the job.

"But I have had some great conversations, and I feel incredibly supported by John, our president, as well as our CEO, Tim Silvers.

"So I sit in a position at the moment where I feel pressure as a coach, as we all do. But that's why we're in the seat."

Nicks denied the speculation was destabilising ahead of the elimination final.

"When you look at things like this, there's a potential for that to be the case," he said.

"It won't be the case within our group. When you've got confidence and belief, things like this galvanise your group."
