Victoria’s ex-COVID boss the latest high-profile exit under Ben Carroll

Jeroen Weimar will leave his role as secretary of the Department of Transport and Planning, the latest high-profile exit under new Victorian Premier Ben Carroll.

Carroll announced in a statement on Thursday that Weimar would leave the role he was appointed to in January 2025, to be replaced by Fiona Adamson.

Weimar was once the state’s COVID Commander and was in charge of the authority tasked with delivering the Commonwealth Games before the government decided to cancel the event.

In the statement, Carroll said he wanted to acknowledge Weimar’s contribution to the department and across the public service, including during the pandemic.

Weimar’s departure comes after Carroll replaced the secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Jeremi Moule, with Chris Barrett within days of becoming leader.

Adamson is currently the deputy secretary of transport service in the department and will start the role on Friday.

“She brings substantial knowledge of the transport sector and her leadership will be important as DTP continues to manage Victoria’s transport network, deliver generational infrastructure projects and drive critical planning, housing and development reforms,” Carroll said.

“I want to acknowledge Jeroen Weimar’s contribution to DTP and across the Victorian public service, including throughout the pandemic, and wish him well for the future.”
