Shock footage emerges of teenage girls brawling outside Newcastle shop
A wild brawl involving several bikini-clad teenage girls - some as young as 13 - is being investigated by police after shock footage of the incident was made public.
A group of teenage girls could be seen following two other teens before cornering them near a shop on the corner of Scott St and Pacific St in the beachside suburb of Newcastle at about 2pm on Sunday.
In the footage obtained by 2GB’s Ben Fordham, the group can be seen approaching a girl wearing a bikini before one unleashes a series of punches and kicks.
The two girls exchanged blows before the attacker was slammed against a shop door causing more girls to join in the fight.
As the brawl grew, so did the group of interested onlookers cheering and filming the constant punches, kicks and hair-pulls.
Eventually, the girl who was initially attacked was pulled away and marched through the crowd of people watching the fight.
Jessica, the mother of the girl who joined the fight in defense of her friend, spoke to Fordham on air on Wednesday morning, describing the incident as “absolutely horrific.”
“My daughter is physically okay, but emotionally the impacts are going to last for a long time,” the mother said.
She told Fordham her daughter was left with “chunks of hair pulled out right down to bare skin.
“Violence against children has become others children’s entertainment, and something needs to change,” she said.
The mother claims she was told by one of the police officers on the scene that “because of the age of these young girls chances are nothing is going to happen to them.”
NSW Police on Wednesday said no one was seriously injured but urged anyone with information or footage to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
