'Hard to sit out': Green up for intense schedule

Allrounder Cameron Green has a full calendar through until the World Cup next year but sitting out international white-ball cricket is not on his agenda.

The 27-year-old plays Test, T20 and ODI cricket for Australia and is in the midst of the most intense schedule of his career.

Green, fresh from a second innings 104 in the nine-wicket first Test loss to Bangladesh in Darwin, has a possible 20 more Tests to play before the end of next year's away Ashes series.

After the second Test against Bangladesh, which starts in Mackay on Saturday, Green has series against South Africa, New Zealand, India and England Test to play.

Then Australia, defending champions, will ramp up their preparations for the World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia from October 4 to November 21. Australia will play three ODIs against England this year in November at home and will have a yet to be determined buildup ahead of the World Cup.

"It is so tough ... so hard to sit out white-ball cricket because we have got a World Cup coming up," Green said.

"I feel like there is always a big tour coming up so it is so hard to sit out tours. .

"It is going to be a really tough 12 months obviously. We have got probably the three hardest away tours - South Africa, India and England coming up as well as a World Cup.

"It is reasonably daunting but also really exciting for this group. We had a similar schedule in 2023 and had a really successful year, so we are hoping for the same."

Green played jut three matches in the 2023 World Cup winning campaign but with the retirements of Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith has emerged as an integral figure in the next title tilt.

He said the 2023 calendar year when he played 10 ODIs and six Tests was a learning curve.

"For sure. We are such a close unit now we all know what each other needs to get through those periods," he said.

"They can be really exhausting so it is taking it game-by-game and not looking too far ahead and just enjoying it. They can be long tours and hopefully you can drag your family across and enjoy the moment."

As a key backup bowler for the five specialists in the squad at Test level as well, Green said it was a "fine balance" to ensure he did not over-train.
