A Melbourne man has been charged with murder after an elderly neighbour was found dead in his home.
German national Peter Duss, 79, was found dead inside his home on Penhyrn Ave in Croydon on Melbourne’s outer east about 2.10am on Monday.
On Wednesday, a 57-year-old Croydon man known to Mr Duss was charged with his alleged murder.
Police had come to the area after receiving reports of a dispute between the pair, who were known to each other.
The 57-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment and remains under police guard.
His case is expected to come before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 2.
Neighbours told media Mr Duss had lived at the address for decades, with his death a shocking loss for his community.
The elderly expat also volunteered as a German language tutor for the University of the Third Age – an international education movement designed for retirees.
