Flying from 2028, it’s the national carrier’s second ultra long-haul route after Sydney to London direct takes off in 2027 Follow our Australia news live blog for latest updates Get our breaking news email , free app or daily news podcast Travellers will be able to fly between Sydney and New York in just 18 hours from mid-2028 when Qantas launches its second ultra long-haul route, cutting at least three hours from the travel time.

The route will be the second in Qantas’ Project Sunrise expansion plans, after new Sydney to London direct flights to begin in October 2027.
