Six teens accused of murder fight DNA test after blood found on shoe
A 16-year-old allegedly found with blood on his shoe is among six teenagers fighting police attempts to collect DNA evidence following an alleged murder and catfishing plot.
Kiels Mountain man Oliver Conroy died on August 6 after allegedly being attacked by a group of seven teenagers near the QUT Kelvin Grove campus on Victoria Park Rd in Brisbane on July 24.
The 27-year-old was reportedly lured to the area by the teenagers with a fake promise of romance.
Police allege Mr Conroy was confronted by the group about 10.30pm and violently assaulted before the teenagers drove off in his luxury BYD Shark 6.
The teens were originally charged and dealt with for various offences however were first charged with murder on Thursday, August 13.
On Monday, six of the seven teenagers had their matters heard again in Brisbane Children’s Court.
Each of the six offenders, including a 14-year-old and girl and 15-year-old girl, opposed police applications to obtain DNA samples.
The court was told one child, a 16-year-old boy, was found to have what appeared to be blood on his shoe.
Defence solicitors for the children similarly argued the application was unclear and too broad-reaching in regards to the alleged offending.
All six applications were adjourned to August 31 to allow police time to clarify their position and further specify what DNA samples found at the scene would be tested against the children’s DNA if the applications were approved.
The seventh juvenile defendant submitted to police testing for DNA at his first mention before the court on Friday, August 14.
The seven teens included five boys, aged between 15 and 17, and the two girls.
All of the child defendants remain in custody awaiting the outcome of the police applications.
Police are continuing to urge two potential witnesses on the night of the alleged attack to come forward.
