Robert Irwin as Logies host: The verdict is in for the wildlife warrior’s history-making debut
Robert Irwin has pulled off an impressive debut as the youngest-ever Logies host at just 22 years old.
The young conservationist showcased the skill of a seasoned professional, earning plenty of praise for his confidence, charm and ability to handle one of Australian television’s biggest nights.
Discussing his performance on The Morning Show, Home And Away stars Emily Weir and Sophie Dillman shared their verdict on the “nation’s golden boy”.
“I loved it, I thought it was fantastic,” Weir said on Monday morning.
“He is such a joy germ — just full of joy. I thought he was excellent, the choreography at the beginning — what a start to the show.
Dillman addressed whether she thought Robert’s performance earned him the chance to return again next year as host.
“Robert was excellent, but I do believe it’s been a while since a woman has taken this in her stride,” Dillman said.
She then suggested her friend and former co-star Weir would do a “bang-up job” as Logies host.
The wildlife warrior brought his signature style to TV’s night of nights, opening the show with an energetic dance performance.
“The Logies is not quite my natural habitat, you know,” Robert joked during his speech.
“I tend to spend my time amongst apex predators, venomous snakes, in an environment that’s constantly under threat.
In his opening monlogue, Robert proved he was no longer the innocent little Irwin, taking aiming at axed TV host Karl Stefanovic and comedian Dave “Hughesy” Hughes in his speech.
“Unfortunately, Karl Stefanovic didn’t RSVP tonight, which means we didn’t have to hire quite as many bartenders,” Irwin joked on Sunday night.
“But we’ve kept him a spare seat just in case. It’s over there to the right, the far right.”
