Men slashed as masked intruders storm Warnbro home armed with machete, axe and knife

Two men have been stabbed by masked intruders who stormed a home in the early hours of Monday morning.

A man in his 40s was slashed to the chest and abdomen and a second victim in his 50s suffered wounds to his lower back when a gang of four broke into a property in Warnbro, in Perth ’s south, just before 2.30am.

It is understood the intruders were armed with edged weapons including a machete, knife and an axe, with the latter found dumped on a neighbour’s lawn after they fled on foot.

The younger man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital and the other was taken to Rockingham Hospital.

Both had serious injuries, but they were not life-threatening and they have since been discharged.

Currie St neighbour Muhammad Zia said he was told one of the victims was lying on the couch, sleeping when he was stabbed.

“We heard the door knock, we opened the door, there was a guy outside,” he said.

“He said someone is trying to kill him and then he asked us to help him.

Another neighbour said they heard people yelling and that the violent home invasion would rattle the community.

“(I’m) disturbed and quite traumatised by the situation,” Maggie Mackie said.

It was the second time in two nights the home had been targeted, with investigators linking the attack to a disturbance at the same home about 11pm on Saturday.

On that occasion several people caused significant damage when they tried to break into the home.

“We understand this incident will leave many local residents feeling unsettled,” Detective Acting Sergeant Elle Arthurs said.
