Number of missing Aussies in Nepal revised down to 38

The number of missing Australians has been revised down to 38 from 43 on Wednesday morning.

Five citizens have been confirmed safe – one in Nepal, one in Tibet, China and three outside of the crisis location.

NewsWire understands these Australians had not had contact with families and next of kin since the disaster struck and their welfare could not initially be confirmed.

A RAAF aircraft deployed to provide humanitarian and disaster relief supplies is due to arrive in Nepal today 10am local time.

It comes as the death toll in Nepal surpasses 1000 while more than 4500 people remain missing, according to the latest figures from the country's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

Disaster struck on August 26 when a glacial collapse in the Himalayas triggered devastating flash floods downstream in several districts along the Nepal-Tibet border.
