City of Subiaco’s Lords fitness instructors get creative for Million Moves exercise challenge in September

City of Subiaco fitness instructors have taken to locations around the suburb to show exercise can happen almost anywhere.

The Lords Recreation Centre staff have been seen doing lunges in laneways, planks in parks and push-ups in public in an effort to get people moving this September.

The national Million Moves initiative challenges people to commit to small periods of exercise each day: either 15, 30 or 60 minutes.

Lords instructors have created a six-part video series — Move a Million Ways with Lords — to support the challenge, which shows how exercise can happen nearly anywhere.

They visited locations including Subiaco Common, Jualbup Lake, the Subiaco Oval heritage gates, Forrest Walk and Subiaco library and museum to record demonstrations of exercises that can be done without a gym or specialised equipment.

Subiaco mayor David McMullen said the campaign was designed to make movement feel accessible for everyone.

“Lords has long helped people of all ages and abilities stay active and connected,” he said.

“Through Million Moves, the team is taking that message beyond the centre and showing how many opportunities there are to move throughout Subiaco.”

“We hope the campaign encourages people to try something new, make small and achievable changes, and remember that every minute of movement counts.”

A new video will be shared on the Lords Facebook page and YouTube channel on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the challenge, which runs until September 21.

Million Moves, led by Australia’s peak body for exercise AUSactive, also offers free resources to participants who sign up via millionmoves.org.au .
