Children, teens injured, man critical after three-car Sydney crash
Nine people including three young children and two teenagers have been taken to hospital after a three-car crash in Sydney.
The head-on crash happened in the city’s southwest at Cabramatta, late on Sunday night.
Among the injured is an eight-year-old who suffered facial injuries, two children taken to hospital because of injuries from their seatbelts, and a 50-year-old man with critical head injuries.
Police crash investigators are looking at whether anyone is criminally responsible.
The carnage unfolded about 11.15pm on the Hume Highway near Longfield Street.
Police said in a statement a BYD ute was going eastwards and collided head-on with a Lexus SUV. The Lexus then hit a Mazda sedan and all three vehicles came to a stop.
A man in his 50s was driving the Lexus; he was trapped, had to be cut out by firefighters, and was taken to Westmead Hospital with head injuries, in a critical condition, a police spokesperson said.
The male BYD driver was treated at the scene and also taken to hospital.
An eight-year-old in the ute suffered facial injuries and was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
“Two other children from the ute were treated for laceration from seatbelts before being taken to the same hospital for further treatment.
“A male driver of the sedan and his three occupants – a woman and two teenage girls – were taken to hospitals as precaution.”
