Postmedia Invests in the Future of Local News Through Next Generation Digital Experiences

Financial Post ·

TORONTO — Postmedia Network Canada Corp. (“Postmedia” or the “Company”) is investing in the future of local journalism, bringing a next generation digital experience to readers while reinforcing the longstanding role its news brands play in communities across Ontario.

As part of this initiative, Postmedia recently launched a new digital platform for its Southwestern Ontario regional and local news brands, including the Windsor Star, Chatham Daily News, London Free Press, Exeter Lakeshore Times-Advance, Goderich Signal-Star, Clinton News Record, Mitchell Advocate, Seaforth Huron Expositor, Woodstock Sentinel-Review, St. Thomas Times-Journal and Strathroy Age Dispatch.

“Our local news brands have been at the heart of communities for generations, and we believe their role has never been more important,” said Andrew MacLeod, President and Chief Executive Officer of Postmedia. “This investment reflects our commitment to ensuring these trusted publications continue to thrive by strengthening connections between readers and the journalism they rely on, while creating new opportunities for advertisers to engage with highly valued local audiences.”

A welcome email is on its way. If you don't see it, please check your junk folder.

The rearchitected platform improves how readers discover and engage with Postmedia’s journalism by delivering seamless access to local reporting and broader regional coverage. For example, readers of Postmedia’s local publications will continue to enjoy the trusted community coverage their publications are known for, while also gaining access to relevant news stories from across the region and province.

By bringing together local, regional and provincial journalism in a more connected experience, the platform provides broader context on the issues affecting readers while preserving each publication’s distinct local voice.

Alongside these enhancements, Postmedia has reintroduced historic mastheads to celebrate the heritage and community connections that have defined these publications for decades. Inspired by archival newspaper editions and historic photographs, the restored mastheads honour the legacy of news brands that have long been part of the fabric of their communities.

This launch builds on the successful introduction of Postmedia’s new digital experience across the Montreal Gazette, Saskatoon StarPhoenix, Regina Leader-Post, Melfort Journal and several Ontario regional and local news brands, including the Kingston Whig-Standard, Belleville Intelligencer, Cornwall Standard-Freeholder, Pembroke Observer & News, Brockville Recorder and Times, the Gananoque Reporter, The Owen Sound Sun-Times, the Port Elgin Shoreline Beacon, Lucknow Sentinel, Wiarton Echo, The Kincardine News and Hanover Post.

Additional publications across Postmedia’s network will launch on the platform as the Company continues to strengthen its news brands and create greater value for readers, advertisers and the communities it serves across Canada.
