Cubs’ Bregman exits after getting hit by foul ball in on-deck circle

The Chicago Cubs third baseman exited against the Boston Red Sox after being struck in the face by a foul ball while in the on-deck circle.

Bregman immediately grabbed his face and was bloodied by the impact. He was taken into the clubhouse and replaced by Matt Shaw.

The 32-year-old has shone in his first season in Chicago. He entered Sunday slashing .260/.350/.451 with a .801 OPS, 26 home runs and 88 RBIs.

The Cubs have just seven games left in the regular season, but will hope for good news about Bregman as they currently hold the top NL wild-card spot.
