Horcoff: Larkin out with upper-body injury, won’t participate at start of camp

Not even one week after being stripped of his captaincy, Dylan Larkin will not take the ice at the start of training camp.

Interim general manager Shawn Horcoff said that the former captain suffered an upper-body injury this week during training and will not be on-ice at the start of camp, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Wednesday.

Larkin has been the centre of attention this off-season, after he had asked then-general manager Steve Yzerman for a trade after the team missed the playoffs for an active NHL-record 10th consecutive year.

Yzerman stepped down from that role in mid-July, and the Red Wings said any decisions about Larkin’s future would be made by the next person in charge of hockey operations.

Despite no trade being completed, the Red Wings announced that Larkin would be at camp, but was no longer going to be captain of the team.

The 30-year-old has 643 points in 808 career games across 11 NHL seasons, all with the Red Wings.
