Mercury reach buyout agreement with DeWanna Bonner

The Mercury reached a buyout agreement with their longtime star, the WNBA team announced on Monday.

The move allows Bonner, 39, to latch on with a contender with the Mercury out of playoff contention.

"Because of the relationship we have with Dewanna, we worked out a buyout agreement that gives her the opportunity to chase a title in what could be her final post-season," Mercury general manager Nick U'Ren said in a statement.

"DeWanna will always be part of the Mercury family, and we wish her all the best."

Bonner returned to the Mercury last season after a brief stint with the Indiana Fever after the Auburn product spent the first 10 seasons of her career in Phoenix.

In 37 games this season, she is averaging 10.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest.

"I don't know what the future holds, but I'm grateful to the Mercury for giving me the opportunity to play in what could be one of my final post-season opportunities," Bonner said.
