Ketel Marte returns to Diamondbacks lineup for first time since no-show

A key player is returning to the Arizona Diamondbacks just in time for the playoff push.

Second baseman Ketel Marte will be activated from the 10-day injured list and return to the Diamondbacks' lineup ahead of their game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night, it was announced ahead of the matchup.

Marte, 32, has been out since Aug. 16 with a knee issue but made headlines before the injury designation after failing to show up for a road game against the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 17.

Following the absence, manager Terry Lovullo said he felt "betrayed" by his player's disappearance, but that he's "through that" after meeting with Marte in the ensuing days. It was later reported that Marte went back to Phoenix and underwent an MRI on his knee, and that the decision to undergo the process in Arizona rather than Boston was the player's choice.

According to MLB insider Francys Romero , Marte is set to address the team prior to returning to the lineup on Monday.

Before hitting the IL, Marte was hitting .249 with 21 homers and 67 RBIs in 118 games this season.

Heading into Monday's game, the Diamondbacks (73-65) are holding onto the third wild-card position in the National League, with the San Diego Padres only half a game back.
