Man bitten by black bear in second recent Metro Vancouver attack
A man was bitten by a black bear outside his apartment complex in Port Coquitlam on Sunday, according to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service.
The attack comes a week after a three-year-old girl was mauled by a black bear on the back deck of her Maple Ridge home.
COS officers were called to the Port Coquitlam attack site at 3 p.m. on Aug. 16, by which time the bear had left the scene.
“Later that evening, a black bear returned to the area of the attack,” the COS statement read. “Officers tranquilized and transported the bear to a compound for further assessment.”

Once it was determined the bear was responsible for the attack, it was euthanized. There is no update on the man who was bitten.
The black bear returning to the scene is similar to what happened on Aug. 9 in Maple Ridge, where the girl was attacked.
In that case, police were at the site at the time and shot and killed the bear.
Meanwhile, last Friday a woman hiking in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island was injured by a black bear.
The incident occurred at 10 a.m. on Aug. 14 in Stoney Hill Regional Park when the woman and her off-leash dogs encountered a sow and its cub.
The sow attacked the dogs and the woman intervened, receiving undisclosed injuries from the bear.
Given the sow attack was defensive in nature, the bear was not tracked.
Also last Friday, conservation officers killed two grizzly bears in Nelson that had been entering residential properties.
Two yearlings associated with a sow that was killed were captured and released at an undisclosed location. The second bear euthanized had been previously injured.
