One person charged after illicit tobacco products seized, police say

One person has been charged after an Ottawa Police Service investigation into the sale of illicit tobacco products.

On Aug. 12, the West Neighbourhood Resource Team executed a search warrant at a business, seizing 191,180 cigarettes, 2,210 cigars, 2,033 ZYN tins, 4,158 grams of loose tobacco, 1,010 vape pods and $8,663 in Canadian currency, police said.

They said one employee was charged in connection with the sale of illicit tobacco products, but did not provide further details.

According to police, the investigation began after they received online complaints in 2025 about an illegal cannabis dispensary.

“During the investigation, the business, operating as My Legacy, transitioned to selling illicit tobacco products, contrary to the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 and the Tobacco Tax Act,” police said in a news release.
