Shanghai Shenhua fans to halt cheering after case of boy abused for wearing Wu Lei jersey

The familiar drumbeats and chants may be absent from the stands when Shanghai Shenhua face Shandong Taishan next week, after several diehard fan groups announced a suspension of cheering activities.

The announcements followed a Shanghai police report on Wednesday night confirming that three Shenhua fans had been placed under administrative detention for cornering and verbally abusing a young boy and his father outside the stadium.
