China dispatches rescue workers to flood-hit city in Henan

China's Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) dispatched rescue personnel to Zhoukou City, central China's Henan Province, after heavy rain from Typhoon Dolphin swelled rivers and triggered a levee breach around 11 p.m.

Thursday.

A 200-strong engineering rescue team from China Anneng Group, with 110 units of large engineering equipment, arrived Friday and joined emergency operations, the ministry said.

The National Commission for Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief on Friday activated a Level-IV national disaster relief emergency response for Henan following the typhoon – the 13th of the year – and heavy rainfall.

Authorities have allocated 30,000 items of central disaster relief supplies, such as folding beds, quilts and family emergency kits, to affected areas including Zhoukou and Xuchang.

The relief supplies were dispatched on Friday by the commission's office, the ministry, and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration.
