A 15-year-old schoolboy from Bhoomireddipatti near Periya Soragai in Nangavalli died reportedly of cardiac arrest on Saturday (August 22). Relatives of the boy, however, expressed suspicion over his death and refused to accept his body after post-mortem examination.
According to police, R. Sridhar, a resident of Bhoomireddipatti near Periya Soragai in Nangavalli, was a Class 11 student at a government higher secondary school in Vanavasi.
On Friday evening, he, along with his friends, did push-ups on the school ground, during which Sridhar fainted. The teachers took him to the nearby primary health centre for first aid and later took him to a private hospital, but he died on the way.
On Saturday, relatives of the deceased refused to receive the body after autopsy at the Government Hospital in Salem. They eventually accepted the body after police talked and pacified them.
The Nangavalli police registered a case. Police sources said the boy had some issues in his lungs.
