Forest officials on Thursday arrested four persons on charges of poaching a sambar deer near Oddanchatram.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials conducted a raid on a farm owned by Thangavel near Kulanthai Velappar Temple and found that a sambar deer had been poached. They seized antlers and venison from the farm premises.

Thangavel and his accomplices, Chinnasamy, Raja and Saravanan, were arrested. They were produced before the Judicial Magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
