Minister for School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa has said that the State government will build 1,000 Karnataka Public Schools with all the necessary infrastructure to offer education from pre-primary to II PU, across the State, in a phased manner.

Mr. Bangarappa, who is also the Minister in-charge of Shivamogga district, was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of a Karnataka Public School (KPS) at the Science Ground on B.H. Road in Shivamogga on Saturday.

The objective of the programme is to impart quality education to children in both Kannada and English medium. The Asian Development Bank has also offered a loan for the project and the government was utilising the CSR fund. A programme to inaugurate the scheme would be held in Shivamogga soon, he said.

The Minister appreciated donors coming forward to strengthen government schools, and commended Ajax Engineering Limited and the Ajax Engineering Charitable Trust for offering to build the school building at a cost of ₹13.5 crore. He thanked K. Vijay and Kalyani Vijay of the trust for joining hands with the government.

Further, the Minister said there was a shortage of 75,000 teachers in the State, and that the government had begun the process to recruit 15,000 teachers.

K. Vijay of the charitable trust said the organisation would complete construction of the building within a year. The three-storey building would include 35 classrooms, toilets, and an Akshara Dasoha Bhavana to serve midday meals to children.

Shivamogga MLA S.N. Channabasappa; Karnataka State Textile Infrastructure Development Corporation chairman Chetan K. Gowda, Karnataka Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Communities Development Corporation chairperson Pallavi G., MLCs Balkeesbanu and D.S. Arun; and senior officers of the district administration were present.
