On the occasion of Krishnashtami on September 4, a special ‘Gau puja’ will be conducted on the premises of the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam.

Rituals and worship for cows and calves will be performed in accordance with scriptural traditions at ‘Sri Gokulam’ within the temple complex from 9:30 a.m. Similarly, special pujas will also be conducted at the Gau-Samrakshana Shala (cow shelter).

According to the temple management, the cow holds a place of great significance in Vedic culture. The Vedas, Upanishads, Shastras , and Puranas highlight the benefits of worshipping the cow. The temple authorities said: “Since the cow is considered the abode of all deities, the Puranas state that worshipping a cow yields the merit of worshipping all the gods. The Shastras also mention about cow worship as a practice that ensures prosperity and well-being of the world.

Lord Krishna, grew up in Gokulam, tended cattle, and earned the title of ‘Gopala’ (protector of cows). Worshipping the cow on Krishnashtami has become a tradition.
