Kadapa District Collector Sreedhar Cherukuri said that Proddatur constituency would be developed to its true potential as a prominent business centre for the entire Rayalaseema region. Top priority will be accorded to implementing the underground drainage system and sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 24 million litres per day (MLD), collectively estimated to cost ₹600 crore.

Mr. Sreedhar reviewed the development plans for Proddatur constituency during a meeting at his chambers on Tuesday, along with Joint Collector Nidhi Meena, Proddatur MLA Nandyala Varadarajulu Reddy, Revenue Divisional Officer (Jammalamadugu) Sireesha, Proddatur Municipal Commissioner Srinivasa Viswanath and Tahsildar Udaya Bhaskar.

Regarding drinking water supply, roads, electricity, street lights, sanitation and public amenities, the meeting stressed on the importance of ensuring balanced development between the town and the rural areas into which it was expanding. “The rural roads will also be developed on a par with the town,” the Collector said.

Referring to the large scale allegations of irregularities in allocation of housing projects for the poor, the Collector acknowledged the need to initiate a vigilance probe into the activities of the Housing department as well as the private agencies involved in the project.

Similarly, he wanted the Town Planning officials to create awareness among the real estate developers about the regulations regarding layout approval, building approval, road formation, public spaces, parks and creation of infrastructure.
