Rajasthan government orders new building for Rampura school after CJP visit turns violent

Following CJP protests, the Rajasthan government has ordered the construction of a new school building at Rampura, with the party describing the move as a major victory.

On Friday, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) workers were attacked by a group of people while visiting a dilapidated government school at Rampura Kanwarpura village in Jaipur’s Bagru Assembly constituency. The Rajasthan government has now ordered the construction of a new building for the school, with work scheduled to begin on September 1, 2026, according to an order issued late Saturday night.

According to the government order, the process for constructing the new school building has been initiated to provide students with a safe and improved learning environment. Financial approval of ₹ 12 lakh from the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT) was issued on August 13, while another ₹ 6 lakh has been sanctioned from the MLA fund, taking the total allocation for the new building to ₹ 18 lakh.

The development comes as the Rajasthan government announced a broader plan to overhaul infrastructure in government schools across the state.

The Chief Minister’s Office said that, on the directions of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma , a three-year roadmap involving an estimated expenditure of ₹ 12,500 crore has been prepared to transform government schools into safe, well-equipped, modern, inclusive and technology-enabled learning centres.

The roadmap, covering the financial years 2026-27 to 2028-29, seeks to address infrastructure requirements across all 41 districts. It proposes expenditure of around ₹ 2,487.75 crore on 3,587 new school buildings, ₹ 8,378.30 crore on 83,783 new classrooms, ₹ 1,129.45 crore on major repairs at 22,589 schools and ₹ 340.40 crore on 13,616 new toilet complexes.

Alongside the long-term roadmap, the government said school development works worth ₹ 3,006.34 crore have either been approved or are at various stages of tendering and implementation.

Of these, works worth ₹ 620 crore for 518 new school buildings have been approved or are under the tendering process, while construction has already begun on 181 buildings. A separate proposal worth ₹ 600 crore for 894 new school buildings has been submitted after obtaining loan approval from NABARD and the Finance Department.

The government said works worth ₹ 300 crore for 2,906 new classrooms have also been approved and are underway. A provision of ₹ 550 crore has been made for major repairs and safety-related works, while ₹ 936.34 crore has been earmarked for educational, residential and other special facilities.

Around ₹ 1,087 crore is also being spent to equip government schools with modern technology by December 2026. This includes around ₹ 107 crore for 9,000 smart classrooms, ₹ 100 crore for 80,000 tablets and approximately ₹ 880 crore for 7,000 ICT labs.

The CJP described the developments as a victory for its campaign.
