MIAL to begin partial demolition of Mumbai airport's T1 from January 15

Adani Group-operated Mumbai airport will start demolishing a part of Terminal 1 from January 15, 2027 and has commenced redistribution of air traffic to Terminal 2 as well as to Navi Mumbai International Airport, according to a letter.

The Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) operates Mumbai's Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which currently has a capacity of over 50 million and handles over 950 flight movements daily.

Terminal 1 (T1) is nearly 80 years old and some part of the terminal has already been demolished.

T1 and T2 have capacities to handle around 15 million passengers and 40 million passengers, respectively.

Elaborating on the redevelopment plan for T1, MIAL has informed the civil aviation ministry that it plans to commence "demolition of North Section of Terminal 1-B, starting January 15, 2027".
