Govinda warns of Rs 100 crores legal action over false marriage and divorce reports; flags deepfakes and AI content

Govinda has reportedly warned of legal action against media organisations, digital platforms and content creators over what he describes as false, misleading and defamatory information concerning his personal and family life.

The actor has also raised concerns over the use of digitally manipulated material, including deepfakes and AI-generated content.

The development comes after a series of reports and social media claims surrounding Govinda’s personal life.

Following the appearance of his wife Sunita Ahuja at court, reports had surfaced claiming that she had withdrawn her alleged divorce case against the actor.

Subsequently, rumours emerged alleging that Govinda had secretly married actress Rani Swarnkar in a court ceremony.

Such claims have reportedly been described as untrue.

According to the public notice issued on Govinda’s behalf, the actor has cautioned the public, media organisations, digital platforms and content creators against creating, publishing, uploading, circulating or sharing any false, defamatory, malicious, fabricated or unverified material concerning him or his family.

The notice also specifically addresses digitally manipulated content.

It reportedly includes photographs, videos, audio recordings, morphed images, deepfakes and AI-generated material.

According to the notice, no permission has been granted to create, manipulate or use Govinda’s voice, photographs, identity or likeness, particularly in relation to his private or family life, through artificial intelligence or other digital technologies.

The actor has also cited his past experiences and expressed concerns over what he believes could be a deliberate campaign aimed at damaging his public image.

The notice warns that legal proceedings could be initiated under applicable provisions relating to defamation, privacy violations, misuse of identity and cybercrime, including provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000, along with other relevant laws.

As part of the warning, Govinda has reportedly threatened civil claims of up to Rs 100 crores against individuals or entities allegedly responsible for creating or disseminating such content.

The notice further states that he may pursue additional legal remedies before the courts, including measures concerning bank accounts, restrictions relating to property transactions and seizure of passports, subject to applicable law.
