Admissions to 13,344 seats still up for grabs at Delhi University

After multiple rounds of admissions, the University of Delhi has declared that it has 13,344 undergraduate (UG) seats vacant for the 2026-27 intake, and has invited students to participate in a Spot Admission round to fill vacant seats on the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal.

The university has approximately 71,600 undergraduate seats, and requires students to apply for admission on the basis of their Common University Entrance Test (CUET) score. The first round of seat allocation began on July 16 and the academic session commenced on July 28.

On Sunday (August 23, 2026), as of 1 p.m., the list of vacant seats show that there are 2,113 seats available in the General category; 4,133 in the Other Backward Classes-Non-Creamy Layer category; 2,038 in the Schedule Caste category; 2,476 in the Schedule Tribes category; 1,791 in the Economically Weaker Section category; 566 in the Sikh minorities category; and 316 in the Christian minorities category.

Well-known Delhi University North Campus colleges, including St. Stephens College, Hindu College, Hansraj College, and Kirori Mal College, have seats available for B.A./B.Sc. (Hons) courses in science subjects, and the languages, and in the B.A. programme.

Most of the vacant seats are in the B.A. (Hons) courses in various languages, including Sanskrit, Tamil, and Bengali, Haneet Gandhi, Dean of Admissions at Delhi University, said. “The Spot Admission round has been announced on schedule and we hope to fill all the remaining seats,” he added.

The number of seats vacant at the end of the admission process comes after an overwhelming response initially, with over 1.9 lakh students registering for admission to undergraduate programmes at the university. During the first round of admission, over 80,000 students accepted their allocated seats, and the university issued 93,033 seat allotments across against the 71,600 undergraduate seats. However, many students have withdrawn their admission.

In the Spot Admission round, students who applied for the CSAS(UG)-2026 but were not admitted to any college as on August 22, 2026 can participate.

“It will be mandatory for the candidate to take admission to the seat allocated in a Spot Admission round if they have opted for it. Failure to accept the allocated seat in the Spot Admission round will forfeit the candidate’s eligibility for admission,” the university said. There will be no option ‘Upgrade’ or ‘Withdraw’ options during the Spot Admission rounds, it added. The seat allocated in a particular Spot Admission round would be final and would not be ‘upgraded’. The university plans to complete its entire admission process by August 29, 2026.

Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh had in 2025 defended the varsity’s admission process through the CSAS portal, which he said was a more transparent system, despite seats remaining vacant.
