Farmers seek unhindered silt removal from Bhavanisagar Dam

More than 50 farmers involved in removing silt from the Bhavanisagar Dam using tractors have urged the district administration to ensure they do not face any hurdle in removing the silt free of cost.

At a consultation meeting organised by the Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Protection Association in Sathyamangalam on Tuesday (August 25, 2026), the farmers discussed the difficulties they faced while removing silt from the reservoir.

The farmers alleged that some persons were collecting money from them on various pretexts and sought legal action against those involved. They also warned middlemen, brokers, and traders against interfering with farmers engaged in silt removal.

Another resolution urged the district administration and the police to take action against persons claiming to be supporters of the ruling party, MLAs, or Ministers and collecting money from farmers.

The association also decided to submit a petition to the tahsildar, District Forest Officer, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department and Deputy Superintendent of Police at 10 a.m. on Monday (August 24, 2026), seeking steps to address the difficulties they faced and facilitate silt removal without obstruction. The meeting was held as part of the association’s efforts to ensure that farmers were permitted to remove silt from the Bhavanisagar reservoir free of cost.
