Leader of the Opposition in the Keralam Assembly Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday (August 22) strongly rejected allegations of hawala dealings involving him, his daughter T. Veena or any other member of his family, asserting that his “hands are clean and will remain clean.”

Responding to questions in Thrissur about the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) money laundering investigation involving Ms. Veena and allegations of hawala transactions, Mr. Vijayan said his daughter had cooperated with the investigation and will continue to provide any information sought by the agency.

“Neither I, my daughter nor any member of my family has engaged in any hawala dealings. I am fully convinced about that. Our hands are clean and will remain clean,” he said.

Mr. Vijayan alleged that Ms. Veena was being targeted because she was his daughter.

“She is being targeted because she is my daughter. There are people who have been after me and targeting me,” he said.

Mr. Vijayan said his daughter was “not a very rich person” and that the amount being discussed was not particularly large.

He also questioned the ED’s decision to issue a press release in connection with the case, noting that the agency normally publishes such information on its official website.

Mr. Vijayan reiterated that Ms. Veena had cooperated with the investigation and will have no hesitation in furnishing any further information sought by the agency.
