Aamir Khan begins major weight-loss transformation for Ashutosh Gowariker's Lalkaara

Aamir Khan is set to reunite with filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker for the upcoming sports drama Lalkaara, marking their first major collaboration since the acclaimed Lagaan.

While their earlier association saw Khan portray Bhuvan, a spirited villager who leads his community in a cricket match against the British, his role in the new film is expected to be markedly different.

According to an exclusive report by Filmfare, Khan has begun a major weight-loss programme as part of his preparation for Lalkaara.

The physical transformation is reportedly an important aspect of the character, as the actor is set to portray a 25-year-old despite being significantly older in real life.

A source close to the development told Filmfare, "Aamir Khan is on a massive weight-loss programme for Ashutosh Gowariker's next film.

Touted as a sports drama, Lalkaara will see the actor playing a 25-year-old.

Aamir is known to go all out when it comes to physically transforming for a role, and this time too, he is putting in a great deal of work to look convincing." Known for adapting his physical appearance according to the demands of his characters, Khan has previously undergone significant transformations for several of his films.

His preparation for Lalkaara is now expected to be another demanding process, particularly with the story requiring him to convincingly portray a much younger character.

Penned by Piyush Gupta and Neeraj Singh, Lalkaara is set against the backdrop of Indian cricket and explores several themes, including rivalry, friendship and patriotism.

The film will also examine the human impact of Partition through the life of one of India's pioneering cricket figures.

The reunion between Khan and Gowariker has already generated interest, given the impact of their previous collaboration, Lagaan.

With Khan undergoing a significant physical transformation for the role, Lalkaara is shaping up to be another ambitious project in the actor-director's association.
