A 16-year-old boy was killed and seven others injured after the car they were travelling in hit a median and overturned in Kokapet early on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Madan Mohan Reddy. The eight boys were intermediate students of Teju College in Hitec City and had gone on a long drive after attending a birthday party.

The accident occurred around 3.30 a.m. near the Neopolis police station when the car crashed into a median and overturned. Police said the accident was due to rash and negligent driving and that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol.

Madan Mohan Reddy died in the accident, while the other seven students suffered minor injuries and were undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Police registered a case under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for death caused by rash and negligent driving and are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
