The High Court has ordered strict measurement of desilted material at Chulliyar Dam to prevent excess removal and possible loss to the State exchequer. In its August 20 order, the court recorded that 2,25,830.17 cubic metres of desilted material was available at the site and directed that no more than this quantity be removed.

The court modified its earlier interim order and directed the authorities to measure the material in the presence of the District Geologist, Palakkad. It said the measure was necessary to prevent undue benefit to Koothradans Infrastructure, the petitioner, and consequential loss to the State.

The authorities were also directed to ensure that no transit pass, permission or other authorisation is issued for removal of material beyond the verified quantity.
