AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday (August 23, 2026) urged the TVK-led Tamil Nadu government to depute officials to ascertain the extent of crop loss incurred by farmers due to the recent rains in the Cauvery delta region and announce compensation.
Citing reports that standing crops in about 2,000 acre have been affected due to rains in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and other districts in the Cauvery delta region, Mr. Palaniswami said livelihood of farmers in this region have been affected.
The former Chief Minister urged the State government to depute officials of the Revenue and Agriculture Departments to visit the affected areas and ascertain the extent of crop loss so that compensation could be awarded. He also called for a compensation of ₹30,000 an acre.
