Two killed after e-rickshaw battery blast triggers fire in Delhi godown

Two individuals, including a minor, were killed after a fire broke out in a godown in west Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar early on Monday (August 17, 2026) morning, following a suspected blast in an e-rickshaw battery.
The Delhi Fire Services received a call about the fire at around 4.42 a.m. from R-17A, Masjid Gurudwara Road, Raghubir Nagar, under the Moti Nagar police station jurisdiction. Three water tenders and a water-bowser were rushed to the spot.
According to the officials, the fire broke out among domestic articles on the first floor of a building comprising a ground floor and four upper floors. Officials said the fire was caused by a blast in an e-rickshaw battery.
Two people suffered burn injuries in the incident and were rushed to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in Raghubir Nagar. The victims have been identified as Sufaid, 17, and Mohd. Samid, 38.
Both were declared brought dead by the medical officer on duty at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, Raghubir Nagar, officials said.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
